Malicious software : Cerberus
•It is a Banking Trojan. (It is primarily used to steal financial data, such as credit card numbers.)
•Recently, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has sent alerts to all the States, Union Territories and the central agencies on a malicious software (cerberus) threat that is taking advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic
[The cyber alert related to Cerberus has been sent on the basis of inputs received from the Interpol.]
How Cerberus works
•It takes advantage of the Covid-19 pandemic and sends SMS to lure a user to download the link containing the malicious software.
•It deploys its malicious application usually spread via phishing campaigns to trick users into installing it on their smartphones
Star Rating of Garbage Free Cities
•Recently, the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MOHUA) has announced the results of the Star Rating of Garbage Free Cities for the assessment year 2019-2020
•Total of six cities have been certified as 5-Star, 65 cities as 3-Star and 70 cities as 1-Star.
Six ‘5-Star’ cities include
1. Ambikapur (Chattisgarh)
2. Surat (Gujarat
3. Mysuru (Karnataka)
4. Rajkot (Gujarat),
5. Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and
6. Navi Mumbai (Maharashtra)
•The Star Rating Protocol was launched by the Ministry in 2018 to institutionalize a mechanism for cities to achieve Garbage Free status, and to motivate cities to achieve higher degrees of sustainable cleanliness
•The Star Rating is supported by self-assessment and self-verification for achieving a certain star rating. (It also ensures the involvement of citizen groups for a transparent system of self-declaration.)
•Further, the self-declaration is further verified through an independent third party agency appointed by MoHUA.

Indo-US Vaccine Action Programme (VAP) for COVID-19
•The VAP is an Indo-US bilateral program, which supports a broad spectrum of activities relating to new and improved vaccines.
•The programme was designed to encompass laboratory-based research, evaluation of candidate vaccines, testing for clinical development, vaccine quality control, delivery of vaccines and so on
[The programme is under implementation since July, 1987 under the Gandhi-Reagan Science & Technology Agreement]
•The U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has said it would separately fund the Government of India $3.6 million to support prevention, preparedness, and response activities in India
•The U.S has already announced a donation of 200 ventilators to India. The ventilators, which will be paid for by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), are part of the $5.9 million in funding announced till date for India
Rajiv Gandhi Nyay Yojana : launched by Chhattisgarh
•It aims to ensure “minimum income availability” to farmers of the state through direct bank transfer.
•The scheme will formally be launched in the state on May 21, the death anniversary of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi
•Based on registered area and area under cultivation during Kharif crop season 2019, Rs 10,000 per acre will be deposited in the bank accounts of farmers as agriculture assistance grant for sowing crops such as paddy, maize and sugarcane.
•At least 19 lakh farmers will benefit from the scheme, for which the state government had allocated Rs 5,756 crore in the budget 2020-21.
Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR), Chandrapur (MH)
• A new prey and predator estimation in Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) in Chandrapur district has found the presence of 115 tigers and 151 leopards inside the 1,727 sq km of the core and buffer areas of the reserve in 2019
•The overall tiger count in Chandrapur district alone is more than 200, which is about two-third of the total number of tigers in the state.
•Although the tiger numbers appear to be up🔺 as compared to 2018, the population density shows a decline from 5.51 to 5.23 per 100 sq km. [This is because of coverage of more area this year.]
•Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) is Maharashtra’s oldest and largest national park.

Revise criteria for MSMEs
•Days after changing the definition of MSMEs, the government has decided to further revise the criteria for medium units
1. : A Company with investment up to Rs 1 crore and turnover upto Rs 5 Crore
2.Small : A Company with investment up to Rs 10 crore and turnover up to Rs 50 crore
3. Medium : A Company with Investment up to Rs 50 and turnover limits to upto Rs 200 crore5
