•International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has decided to observe the first-ever International Horseshoe Crab Day on 20th June 2020.
•The celebration of the day aims to generate greater awareness for these ancient creatures and help in their conservation
•It is a marine chelicerate arthropod living in shallow coastal waters on soft sandy or muddy bottom and spawns (release or deposit eggs) mostly on intertidal beaches at summer spring high tides
•It is regarded as a marine ‘living fossil

SATYABHAMA Portal for Mining
•Ministry of Mines has launched a portal “SATYABHAMA (Science and Technology Yojana for Atmanirbhar Bharat in Mining Advancement)” with an aim to promote research and development in the mining and minerals sector
•This portal will allow online submission of project proposals along with monitoring of the same and utilisation of funds.
•The portal has been designed, developed and implemented by the National Informatics Centre (NIC).
•The portal is also integrated with NGO Darpan Portal of NITI Aayog.
National Institute of Public Finance and Policy(NIPFP)
•Urjit Patel has been appointed chairman of the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy (NIPFP). He will succeed Vijay Laxman Kelkar.

•NIPFP is an autonomous body set up jointly by the Ministry of Finance, the erstwhile Planning Commission, and several state governments.
• It was founded in 1976. It is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

Keeladi excavations site of Tamil Nadu: Archaeologists find child’s skeleton
•Archaeologists working at Konthagai excavation site in Tamil Nadu stumbled upon a skeleton measuring, 75 cm in height, on Friday
[Konthagai, about four km away from Keeladi in Sivaganga district, was believed to be the burial site of that civilisation]
•Many antiquities have been unearthed that provide crucial evidence to understanding the missing links of the Iron Age [12th century BCE to 6th century BCE] to the Early Historic Period [6th century BCE to 4th century BCE] and subsequent cultural developments.
•Tamil Brahmi letters found were inscribed when the pot was wet or after the pot became dry. [This clearly suggests literacy levels in the 6th century BC.]
Rule of Law Index-2020
•A petition was filed in the Supreme Court asking the Court to direct the government to setup expert panels to boost India’s prospects in the Rule of Law Index
•On March 11, the World Justice Project announced the Rule of Law Index and ranked India in the 69th position.
•The nation’s ranking in the Index “confirms poor performance in eight sectors, [
1) constraints on government powers, 2)absence of corruption, 3)open government, 4)fundamental rights, 5)public order and security, 6)regulatory enforcement and 7) civil justice and 8)criminal justice”.]
•Rule of Law index is a quantitative assessment tool designed to offer a detailed and comprehensive picture of the extent to which countries adhere to the rule of law in practice.
•The index covers 128 countries.
